An Overview of Ocular Migraine |
Causes of ocular migraines: The exact cause of ocular migraines cannot be clinically proven, yet certain factors are presumed to be the predisposing reasons. Stress, alcohol, medication, premenstrual changes, hormone regulation, hunger, use of contraceptive, intake of caffeine or chocolate exposure to pollution or odor are factors responsible for this type of migraine. According to medical interpretation everybody may respond different to these factors. One man’s cause is not necessarily the cause of another’s headache. The most common symptom of ocular migraine are visual disturbances, hallucinations , diploid vision, light flashes, sparks, complex color patterns, floaters, zigzags of light, blurred vision often accompanied by nausea or dizziness. Doctors have confirmed that some people may also experience black or grey dark colored spots over a normal visual field. It’s been seen that the symptoms of ocular migraine are temporary but, they interfere with daily activities like driving, reading, watching television, recognizing the exact shape of objects. Hence it’s necessary to seek immediate medical assistance in case you have symptoms of ocular migraine. Treatment for ocular migraine: The first and foremost treatment you can apply for ocular migraine is avoiding the issues which cause this type of migraine and getting symptomatic pharmacologic or prophylactic treatment. During acute ocular migraine doctors often suggest patients to confine themselves to dark rooms for a considerable period of time resting without any noise or irritating sound. In less vulnerable pain a simple analgesic is prescribed for reducing the pain, but in worst conditions some medications like cafegrot (a mixture of caffeine and ergotamine), or simply the drug ergotamine is prescribed by the doctors to reduce the intolerable pain.
