Hunger headaches Not having your meals on time or skipping you meals can have several consequences including a headache. This type of headache can easily be avoided by following healthy eating habits. Causes/triggers Symptoms * Hunger headaches usually strikes before meal time. Treatment The best treatment for hunger headache is to eat a healthy and well balanced diet. Eat nourishing meals that contains adequate proteins and complex carbohydrates. Prevention Avoid skipping meals. Eat healthy food and make sure that you eat on time. Cluster headaches This headache type gets its name from the pattern in which the pain erupts. In cluster headache, the pain usually erupts in the form of clusters in the head. Causes/triggers Excessive consumption of alcohol and smoking are the two most important factors that can trigger a cluster headache. Symptoms * Extreme pain around the eye * A feeling of tearing of the eye * Nose congestion * Flushing of face * Cluster headaches usually erupts while sleeping * May last for several hours Treatment To treat cluster headaches you can use oxygen, ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent. Prevention Steroids, calcium blockers and lithium can be used prevent cluster headaches. Sinus headaches Sinus headaches are caused due to the blocking of sinuses and are accompanied by inflammation of sinuses. They are characterized by a dull, deep and throbbing pain in the front of your head and face. Causes/triggers A sinus headache is primarily caused due to the blocking of sinus. Infection, anatomical deformities, nasal polyps, and a deviated septum are some factors that can cause the blocking of sinus. Symptoms * Pain in the head and nasal area * The severity of pain keeps on increasing through out the day * May be accompanied with fever Treatment Ideally antibiotics are used to treat sinus headaches. Decongestants may also be used to clear the sinus blockage. In extreme cases, sinus drainage may be necessary. Prevention There is nothing that you can do to prevent sinus headaches.
