Overview of Migraine headache
Migraine can be referred to as a type of headache that is extremely serious and painful in nature.  It is actually a neurological disease with symptoms like light flashes, blind spots and tingling in the limbs and temporary loss of vision. Biologically, it can be explained as a combination of expansion of blood vessels and release of chemicals from the nerve fibers with the chemicals causing further enlargement of the arteries and pain.

Migraine is considered to be a hereditary condition and most commonly found in women or in people of the age group of 15 to 55 and in women. Some people misunderstand migraine as a tension headache or sinus headache and often lead to ignoring the ailment and taking proper treatment. One of the differences between a migraine and a common headache are the flashes of light that a sufferer of migraine experiences.

A Migraine headache can come up unexpectedly and cause sudden pain in very little time. The location of this pain can vary from attacking in the forehead or around the eye or at the back of the head.
Migraine is a disease characterized by varied symptoms including hypertension, irritability, nausea and yawning.

Another term associated with migraine is triggers or those factors that cause headache in people who are prone to them. These triggers can be stress, sleep disturbances, fasting, cigarette smoke and alcohol. Bad sleep patterns and habits are all associated with migraine headache. Frequent intake of caffeine may also cause migraines.  Prolonged fasting should also be avoided to prevent headaches.

Necessary precautions should be taken to avoid migraine attacks. Regular sleeping habits are very essential for the prevention of migraine headaches. We should try to go to sleep and wake up at the same time everyday.

Following a fitness and health regime can help reduce the frequency of migraine attacks since regular exercise improves the quality of sleep. Avoid exposure to bright lights by wearing sunglasses. Skipping meals can prove to be dangerous.

The pain that migraines cause can be severe. The condition can be treated with proper  medication. There are various therapies to cure migraines. Some of them are based on medicines, while other therapies include using ice packs, relaxation techniques and sleep. Medication includes over the counter painkillers, which are effective and provide relief from migraines in a very short period. The best cure for a migraine is a long and relaxed period of sleep

Prevention is better than cure. This holds true for migraines. Instead of relying upon medication to cure migraines, we should adopt healthy eating and sleeping habits to prevent them.
